Mardi Gras World.

Mardi Gras World is a functioning warehouse tasked with building, storing, and revamping the 30 plus floats of the Orpheus Superkrewe.

This particular Superkrewe was founded in 1993 by Harry Connick Sr and son Harry Connick Jr. Artist are on hand to sculpt and build each part of the floats artwork and ornamental decoration, and to answer questions about upcoming parades.

The guided tour is accessible, colorful, and very educational, covering aspects and the history behind Mardi Gras.

I had no clue that Mardi Gras first began in 1703 and the "carnival" lasts for about two weeks each year, with over 50 superkrewes, each hosting their own themes and parades, and each krewe is required to pass out millions of dollars in free beads, cups, and coins called doubloons, all while wearing colorful masks.

Floats costs around $60,000 a piece to build and $7000 to $10,000 yearly to revamp.

Go by there, have a piece of King Cake and laissez les bon temps roulez!
